01 What kind of natural light does the room get?

Choose the closest fit. Exposure changes throughout the day; we are looking for the dominant condition.

02 What undertone do you see in the flooring?

Look at wood, tile, carpet, or stone—not the tiny paint chip in your hand.

03 What leads the furnishings?

Choose the undertone repeated most in upholstery, rugs, stone, and large casegoods.

04 How do you want the white to feel?

This helps narrow the character of the sample—not override what the room's fixed finishes tell us.

05 Are the trim, crown, and doors staying?
06 Which brands do you want to sample?

Select one or more. The shortlist only uses verified manufacturer color names and numbers.

A shortlist, not a guaranteed perfect white. This shortlist is a starting point. The suggested whites may still not be the right choice for your space. Lighting, surrounding finishes, and paint sheen can change how a white reads. Test large physical samples in your room at different times of day before committing.

A designer-guided starting point from 44 verified colors—not a color guarantee. Screens cannot show paint accurately.

The SBS test method

A white only works
in context.

  1. 01

    Sample large

Use a large movable sample or a board with full coverage. Tiny chips hide the undertone.

  2. 02

    Move it around

Check it beside the floor, upholstery, countertops, and the existing trim—not in an empty corner.

  3. 03

    Watch a full day

Look in morning, afternoon, and evening light, with the lamps you actually use turned on.

Designer note: if the trim stays, it is part of the palette. Treat it like any other fixed finish.
